Have You Ever? Gaming Edition

Sometimes you come across a post and you just know you want to answer the questions and take part.  The “Have You Ever” series of questions which Michelle at A Geek Girls Guide is one of these.  So many people in the community have taken part including Nowisgames, Shoot the Rookie and LeeksPlays so there are lots of posts to check out.

So have you ever….?

Rage quit a game

Not in the sense of getting to the point of being raging at the game or throwing controllers about, however my rage can exist in other ways.  I have groaned/made sounds of frustration and apparently sounded like I was actually in physical pain after failing something for the umpteenth time.  I have also got in a mood with a game and uninstalled it because I gave up after getting so annoyed about constantly failing a boss fight that I didn’t want it on the hard drive any more.  I’m sorry Quantum Break – though I now want to try it again and see if I can complete it.  Those are my sort of rage with games.

Earned all achievements in a game

Yes!  Surprisingly given my abilities in certain games this has happened.  Perhaps I should mention that the majority of the games I have completed to all achievements are Telltale or Lego games.  However, that isn’t the point.  Also I have the platinum trophy in games like Spider-Man and Cat Quest so my 100% completion of achievements and such aren’t just limited to Telltale or Lego games.  One of my most recent 100% games was Wandersong which is a gorgeous game.

Pulled an all-nighter gaming

I don’t think I’ve actually gone the full way through until morning but I’ve certainly stayed up very late gaming.  I can definitely remember still playing at 3am-4am but I don’t think its ended up a full night.  Maybe one day I will do a 24 hour thing for charity and accomplish this.

I will note that I am discounting when I was on nightshift and spent the nights off gaming as that was like my day and I slept through the day as that was my night.  I mean technically then the answer was yes but I did also get up at like 7pm on my days off and then go to bed at like 10am after gaming through the night so… yes and no.

Livestreamed your gaming

Funny you ask this, the answer is yes. I mean you can even follow me on Twitch to see the fun and frolics (and witness me getting lost in games because I can’t work out where to go…. or see the door I have to interact with).   If you like a mix of single player games, someone that says “wee” a lot (apparently), falling off buildings in game and lovely people in chat to interact with then check out my channel.

Pre-ordered a game

Yes – both as a gift for someone and for myself.  For me it depends on level of excitement and my investment in the game/franchise.  Sometimes waiting can be better but I’m not going to discount a preorder if it makes sense for me and it’s something I value.

Bought a game and never played it

Don’t judge me but yes.  I think most gamers have this and my backlog exists.  I have several games that I have bought in sales that I just haven’t quite got round to yet.  Unfortunately on the unplaced list there are also some that I bought at full price, some I got as gifts and some I got for free. Though I am doing well with my backlog this year so maybe this is the year to tick some more of these games off the list!

Been jumpscared by a horror game

I have been jump scared by non-horror games that don’t have a jump scare (I have just had the jump scare feeling and jumped at it).  I have literally jumped in my seat at the cinema due to a trailer for a horror film.  For sensible reasons I generally avoid horror games.  So don’t expect much Halloween/scary posts or streams from me in October!

Had a set squad for a specific game

Not really.  I don’t play much online and the main games I played online were co-op with my husband (at the time boyfriend) so if that counts as a set squad then sure.

In terms of the characters you choose as your squad in a game then sometimes I’ll stick with people and others I change regularly.  So in Mass Effect Andromeda I varied it and in The Outer Worlds I always had Parvarti with me where I could.

Bought a game on multiple platforms

Spyro switch case

Again, there is no judgement here, but yes.  Off the top of my head in the last few years this includes Stardew Valley, Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy and 36 Fragments of Midnight.  Though I could say more if I included the ones that I am not responsible for.

Got a console for the games specifically

Pretty much any Nintendo console has been bought for a specific game.  Usually involving either Mario or Pokémon or both.  For instance the Switch was due to Super Mario Odyssey but also the promise of the next generation of Pokémon games appearing solely on it.  My 3DS was inspired by a trial of a demo machine and Mario Kart 7 was key in that.  This probably won’t be the last time this happens.  Wanting a PS4 was based on games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Detroit Become Human.

  1. That was fun to read! I’m not going to say any more as there’s a good chance I’ll be completing this myself soon 😉

I did giggle at your reply to the jump scare one though; in solidarity not at you. I have done that sooo many times.
