The Longest Gaming Day

Today is the longest day, maybe with the exception of the Monday that you return to work after a holiday.  Seriously, this is the longest day with a whole 16 hours, 38 minutes and 20 seconds* of daytime gaming time available to us all.  That is 998 minutes and 20 seconds of daytime.  Later Levels has inspired me to talk about spending all this time playing games and handily had given me the below times for sunrise and sunset.

* Based on London, UK with a sunrise time of 04:43 and sunset at 21:21.

What could I do with all that time to play games?  Plenty.  I will be honest with you I don’t think I’m actually going to play any games today.  Maybe a little bit if I get any chance after work but let’s have a look at what I could spend all that time on.  Since this is the longest day I could use this time to at least begin some of the games on my backlog as well as continuing the games that I’m focused on at the moment.

Let’s begin with my top 10 current choices of games I would love to play today.  I could spend 99 full minutes per game plus some seconds left over. So much progress could be made on these games in that time, or at least I could begin some of the games that have been set on my backlog.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

Yoshi cuteness, platforming game, and most importantly Yoshi cuteness.  As the box says “everyone needs a bit of Yoshi in their life”. I don’t think there is that much left to say about this one.  Perhaps, other than to mention that I am surprised that this is still on my backlog.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Strictly speaking this is not on my backlog as I have played some of it and it is also not a game that I am currently focused on.  However, I need to restart this as it has been so long since I played it and I would not know where I was if I jumped back in. To be honest this is why I haven’t completed it because I don’t like the idea of restarting it because I have forgotten everything about it but, equally, I do not like the idea of jumping back in fairly blind and blundering my way round the story trying to get through.  I will go back to this as I want to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider eventually and will only play that once I finish Rise of the Tomb Raider. It’s a true gaming dilemma.

Kingdom Hearts

From all that I have heard I realise that once I begin this series I may end up down the rabbit hole as it were.  Perhaps this would be a good one to work on for the full day, however, it is just one I need to start for so many reasons.  Now where is that notepad as I suspect I may need to take notes to keep the story as clear in my mind as possible.

Gears of War

This has been on my to play list far too long.  It is one of my other halfs favourite franchises and I saw him play Gears 4 and it looks good.  I just have never played any from this franchise. Perhaps this would be the perfect day to start?  It has been a long time waiting to be played after all.

Super Lucky’s Tale

I got this as a present, like some others on this list, and was excited about it.  However, it was installed and then left on the side as I was in the middle of whatever game at the time.  I even did some artwork based on Lucky. I still didn’t start it. Now, maybe I could. I have the space in my life for a cutesy platformer.  Not that I have 100% finished my other cutesy platforming loves (Crash Bandicoot and Spyro – in fact I’m still working on these). Getting to 100% on all of them is hard and I get frustrated even though I love them.

The Witness

I started this a few months ago but my progress stalled when I then started focusing on another game.  With around 99 minutes to play I think I could make a lot of puzzle progress in that time. Even if I got stuck on a puzzle I have a selection of games to change to, or the time to think it through properly with diagrams and pen and paper notes.

Detroit: Become Human

Two characters, both androids, are separated by a glass wall. One assisting with police investigations and one kept in custody.
Two androids, two situations.

Last month I finished this game.  However, that is not the end of the story.  I want to see how the game goes if you make different choices, some characters do not die prematurely and what differs when you pick different options for responses or questions where appropriate.  There are so many ways that this game could change and I’d like to see some more of it. I may have finished it but I don’t think I’m done with it just yet.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

I am still working on collecting gems, eggs, orbs and tears when I fail the flying levels yet again.  It is the most enjoyable combination of cute, funny and surprisingly tricky platforming. Plus you play as a dragon who can participate in skateboarding sections, which were always favourites of mine when I originally played Year of the Dragon.

Ace Attorney Trilogy

Since I started this I have been hooked.  I could probably play this all day and still want to play more.  I am working my way through a trial at the moment and maybe I could finish off this chapter and start another with some time going towards it.  Of all the games on this list this is the one I am most likely to actually manage to pick up and play today. That doesn’t mean I can’t dream of spending the whole day playing or at least more time than I am likely to get.

Forza Horizon 4

Sometimes I just need to have a game where I can just drive around as well as having events I can take part in.  This is one that I have been thinking about jumping back into but haven’t yet. It is likely to appear on my monthly game summaries soon if my thinking about it goes any further.  It is a fantastic map and the races are the usual Horizon fun and there is just something relaxing about being able to spend time driving around.

If you could, what would you spend all day playing?  Are you planning on playing any games today? If so, what are you playing?  Let me know in the comments.

    1. I know that problem! I don’t want to think too much about my backlog. I will always have a game to play! I want to play God of War as well, we got it a while ago but haven’t started it yet. I really enjoyed Spider-Man when I played it last year. Great fun swinging around the city.

      1. Yeah! I have to play Spider-man I think more than all the other ones I listed.

Oh, off topic but I wanted to ask, how do you make those little rectangular text boxes in front of your images? I don’t know photoshop so I’m looking for ways to do that to my featured images also…thanks!

      2. I do my featured images that aren’t screenshots in canva. It’s free (you can pay for some things but for what I do its free) and really easy to use. Would recommend it. Even I can use it and my ability/experience in this sort of thing is not high.
